Hope is a dream that lifts people up and encourages them to persevere forward. Fear is a shadow that pulls them back into despair and whispers defeat. Friendship is the bond that gives people foundation and support. Freedom is a liberating feeling in which people rejoice. The Shawshank Redemption was an exemplary film that proved how dedication, patience, friendship and hope are extremely powerful and are big supporting factors in life. Shown in The Shawshank Redemption, directed by Frank Darabont, was a passionate and inspiring story of a quiet and wrongly convicted man named Andy Dufresne and his encounters with fear, friendship, freedom and hope. Andy never made a sound. Dead silent and cooperative he was, for he knew there would be consequences if he was not. Little did Red know, he himself was being swallowed in fear as the years piled. Red admitted, â€Å"Theres a harsh truth to face. No way Im gonna make it on the outside. All I do anymore is think of ways to break my parole, so maybe theyd send me back. Terrible thing, to live in fear. Brooks Hatlen knew it. Knew it all too well. All I want is to be back where things make sense. Where I wont have to be afraid all the time†. Along with Brooks, Red was being consumed by fear and was having a difficult time holding onto hope, the only difference, Red made a promise to his best friend and was not going to break it. Consumption of hopes and dreams is the primary goal of fear and it takes a great deal of time, hope and support to fight against fear. Through Andy’s perseverance and ability to abstain from fear, he made amazing friends behind those gritty, corrupted walls of Shawshank. Examples of friendship in The Shawshank Redemption are given through Andy and Red’s undeniably strong and supportive bond .
